RED SON

Conservative Talking Points

Kiss of Death - Edwards received a disturbing endorsement this week from Jimmy Carter who said that he was a fan of his positions on poverty and the environment, but he clarified that this wasn't a full-fledged endorsement. Sheesh, Carter can't even demonstrate any leadership when it comes to his endorsements (That's probably another topic altogether). The question really is which American gets excited about a Carter endorsement? Watch your back Edwards; nobody wants to attend the prom with the fat girl.

We'll Meet Again - Don't know where don't know when but I'm sure we will see Alberto Gonzales again. Poor guy tendered his resignation last week and was bombarded by more vicious attacks on his abilities from all sides of the political aisle. The Bush administration has got to be wondering when the American public is going to sigh and say, "There goes a loyal public servant". It seems like Tony Snow might just be that guy, although in his case, the liberals can't decide if it's better for him to be with Bush or with Fox News.

Primary Colors - Obama, Clinton and Edwards joined forces in ignoring early states such as Michigan and Florida whose Democrats are determined to hold earlier primaries and thus make their primaries more important than those in Iowa or New Hampshire. Every candidate has a DUH! moment that makes for a good footnote in their biography after a large election loss. Now, I'm not saying Clinton, who is clearly the smartest of this group, will have that footnote, but Edwards and Obama? What do these two have to lose?? Not exactly making ground, why would you ignore large voting blocs interested in your attention? Convincing evidence that these two are vying for Clinton's attention for a VP nod. Pathetic.

Who Looks Worse? - On the anniversary of Katrina a great deal of bad press and first-hand testimony revealed how poorly the Bush Administration has handled the recovery efforts. Now, as a Republican I should be disenchanted with the Administration, but like many Americans I think that this swings the other way as well. On the one hand, Bush did do a lousy job; on the other hand, the Democrats can't exactly use Big Government as an example of how to get things done. More importantly, like every great policy debate, we get to hear the Dems complain and are left once again asking WHAT'S YOUR PLAN????

Race To The Bottom - In the midst of debate regarding the environment, Katrina, Iraq etc., many overlooked the greatest race the political parties have had in years. Of course, I'm referring to the race to dump our friends as fast as humanly possible. On the Democrat side, we had fugitive fundraiser Hsu who Democrats dropped with lightning speed; while on our side we had Larry Craig who Senate Republicans speedily denounced and derided. Sadly, the title goes to our party and the winner is Mitt Romney, who utilized Craig for his fundraising and coalition building efforts and was immediate in ridding and distancing himself from a friend that turned into a problem. Kudos to you Mitt!
