LIBERAL TP week of March 25th
1. Speaking of patriotism – As the Iraq debacle enters its fifth year of George Bush's "No Democracy Left Behind" program, senior military and government officials have warned that America's security is severely at risk as a direct result of the war. Severe shortages of equipment and personnel will take years to replenish before America will be in a position to defend its interests abroad. I expect the Bush administration to address the crisis by introducing legislation to have faith-based organizations deal with this problem. Onward Christian Soldiers…
2. A Little Birdy Told Me – Rumor has it that a secret Japanese delegation has arrived in the U.S. to teach Hari Kari techniques to Bush administration appointees in general and Alberto Gonzales in particular. This, of course, has incensed the NRA, which had previously offered to donate handguns, assault rifles and hollow point bullets for this purpose. This is much ado about nothing. A few days at Walter Reed Medical center would suffice for these Bushies.
3.The Budget Hunt – Democrats are starting to try to figure out how to balance the budget deficit created by the Bush brain trust. Between 2001 and 2006, $2.2 trillion dollars was added to the national debt. It's not easy going this far into the red. It takes a level of incompetence and mismanagement that dwarfs what Enron's executives were able to accomplish. Of course, Enron's executives were prosecuted. But, Bush has more serious problems to address, like the logistics for the upcoming Easter egg hunt.
4. He Said What? – The chief of the National Institute of Health called for lifting Bush's restrictions on federal funding for stem cell research. "I think it is important for us not to fight with one hand tied behind our back," the NIH Director told a Senate subcommittee. President Bush was overheard to remark, "Who untied this guy's other hand?"
5. I'm Confused – The lead prosecutor of the Justice Department team prosecuting the mega billion dollar lawsuit against tobacco executives accused Bush administration political appointees of interfering with the government's case against Lung Cancer, Inc. What are they smoking over at the Oval Office? That's not like the Bush administration. In the good ole days, they would have questioned the scientific link between lung cancer and tobacco instead of trying to castrate the Justice Dept's attorneys.
